My "little" brother (younger, but not so little) used to work at the bakery of our local grocery store. He would occasionally spoil us by bringing home some raspberry or orange rolls from the bakery. There aren't many things I like from store bakeries, but those rolls I could have any time of day. I have been on a quest to make such rolls, and failed many, many times. Nothing has compared.
During my insomniac ridden night last night, I had an epiphany. I thought to myself, "Self, why not use your awesome cinnamon roll dough and instead of using cinnamon, make some orange infused butter and maybe add some zest to the dough?" While I wanted to jump out of bed and try it right away, I didn't want to disturb My Giant. So I waited until morning. And let me tell you, they were worth the wait! These taste exactly like I was hoping for, and am so glad I have fulfilled my quest to find a perfect homemade orange roll.
